I hope that you have had a good summer of running and are fit and ready to go for the Autumn season?
As you know we are approaching our biggest race; The Barnstaple Marathon 2015 currently has 1080 runners registered to take part with the race starting at 10am on Sunday 27th September.
As you can imagine, the organistion of this event is now substantial. And with the increase in competitor numbers comes a need for more marshals and volunteers. Lots more! As an example of how many people we need, 2 of the water stations on the half marathon course will be visited twice, this means that the volunteers will need to manage 2160 runners. For that number of runners, we need to be looking at about 15 volunteers on each station. We have a large number of water stations all over the course and they all need to have large numbers of helpers.
We are looking, rather desperately it has to be said, for helpers, not just for the water stations but to help in the park before, during and after; marshals on the course, registration (we need at least 20 people on the reg desks) and car parks.
If you are not running, then please come and support your club and help out. The reputation of the club is on the line with this year's event. Last year we pulled off a great event, the expectation to do the same this year is very high. If we cannot live up to the standards we set ourselves last year we will have deemed to have failed. As a club we have come so far, and grown so much recently, that we cannot allow this to happen.
But we need your help. We need you, your families (kids are great on water stations!) your friends and any strangers you can badger from the street! Please come and help us.
You'll be needed for most of the day, there's free tea and cake, a very snazzy BM Volunteer T shirt and the satisfaction in putting on one of North Devon's biggest sporting events and showcasing the supportive nature of our club.

You'll need to be able to attend a pre race meeting on Wednesday 23rd at 7.30pm at Sainsbury's cafe.
If you have already registered to help or said you can't then apologies for this email.
