Many people tell me that it is the first event on their calendar; the reason behind this is simple: we’re not a race we’re a mindset; this is a place where like minded people congregate, plod around some hills and drink in the scenery and often time a little bit of booze too. We’re pretty laid back, we’re not huge fans of stress nor stressy people and the Hartbreaker doesn’t take itself too seriously.

We love putting on the Hartbreaker, it’s a great weekend. We want you to come along and be part of that’ don’t worry about your finish time; it doesn’t really matter – there probably is a course record but we have no idea what it is, nor who holds it. We don’t remember the speedy whippets, we remember the people collapsing across the line with excruciating cramp’ the runners’ arms aloft, the cheering, the singing, the dancing across the line. We remember the people who picked us flowers and gave us a bouquet when they finished; the fancy-dress disasters, but most of all, we remember the laughter from people who can’t quite believe what they’ve just done! Come along and make some memories with us.

Although we are intent on having a good time; we are intensely focused on providing the very best, the safest and the most well organised event we can possibly manage. In fact, there is quite a lot of booze. The 2020 race is the Wine Year so expect plenty of white, red and rose along with your usual favourites. They’ll be some right dodgy cocktails (2 visits), Sangria, tequila (2 visits) Prosecco and beer for the last climb. You simply have to drink responsibly; it is up to you how much or how little you imbibe. None of the marshals will force you to drink; nor are there any prizes or awards for being drunk.
